How to Stay in the Loop with the ACA!

Hey ACA Community,

We're a volunteer-run organization, and we work hard to keep everyone informed about competitions, news, and updates.

To make sure you get the right info at the right time, here’s a simple guide to how we communicate and how you can stay connected.

1. Your Registration Email (The MUST READ Channel)

When you register as a member or for an event on 2mev.com, the email you provide becomes our official way to contact you directly.

  • What We Use It For: This is for critical, time-sensitive information that applies directly to you.

  • What You Need To Do:

    • Provide an accurate email you check often.

    • Review and update your 2mev.com member profile to keep the info up to date.

    • DO NOT unsubscribe from this list. If you do, you will miss essential information about events you are registered for.

    • Add us to your safe senders list so our emails don't go to junk mail.

Bottom Line: This email is our direct line to you for things you absolutely need to know about your membership and events.

2. The ACA Website: albertaclimbing.org (The Source of Truth)

Our website is the central hub for all information. If you're looking for information, start here.

  • What We Use It For: The website hosts the official Event Schedule and a News section. Every event has its own page, which we update with details like formats, specific schedules, and location info as they are confirmed.

  • What You Need To Do:

    • Check the website first for general questions.

    • Bookmark the Event Schedule page and check the specific page for your competition regularly for the latest updates.

    • Subscribe to the mailing list on our website to get general ACA updates.

Bottom Line: The website is the single source of truth. Information on other platforms will always link back here.

3. WhatsApp, and Social Media (For Quick Updates & Reminders)

We will use Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and our new Discord server to make sure our news reaches you wherever you are.

  • What We Use It For: We cross-post all news and announcements from our website to these platforms. Our Discord server also has special channels for event-specific, real-time updates.

  • How to Join:

    • Follow us on Instagram and Facebook for community news and reminders.

    • Join our WhatsApp Community

      • Privacy Disclaimer for This Admin-Only WhatsApp Community

          • Voluntary Use:

      • The use of WhatsApp to access information shared by the ACA is a voluntary decision by the individual user. The ACA will post similar critical information in regards to competitions via the ACA's Facebook, Instagram, Website, and email.

      1. Admin-Only Posting:
This community is configured so that only admins can post messages. Members can view posts but cannot send messages within the group.

      2. Respect for Privacy:

      5. Security Note:
WhatsApp provides end-to-end encryption, but no platform is completely risk-free. Exercise discretion when interacting with admin-shared content.

      6. Conduct & Concerns:
Maintain respectful behavior and refrain from requesting or sharing sensitive personal data. Any privacy concerns should be directed to the admins privately.Bottom Line: These channels are great for staying on top of news, but the website always has the most complete information.

      7. Protect Your Privacy in This WhatsApp Community

        • Welcome! To help everyone feel safe and comfortable, here are a few tips on how to hide your phone number and increase your privacy when using WhatsApp Communities:

          1. Understand When Your Number Is Visible

          • In Communities, your phone number is hidden from members of announcement groups by default.

          • However, if you join a sub-group, your phone number becomes visible to the members of that specific sub-group.

          • Admins of the Community can always see your number.

          2. Stay in the Announcement Group Only

          If you want maximum privacy:

          • Do not join sub-groups unless necessary.

          • Staying only in the main Community Announcement group keeps your number hidden from other members.

          3. Control Who Can Add You to Groups

          Improve your privacy settings:

          1. Open WhatsApp Settings

          2. Go to Privacy → Groups

          3. Select My Contacts or My Contacts Except…

            • This ensures strangers cannot add you to groups without permission.

          4. Limit What Others Can See on Your Profile

You can also hide personal information:

          • Go to Settings → Privacy

          • Adjust:

            • Profile photo

            • About

            • Last seen

            • Online status

            • Status updates

            • Read receipts

          • Set them to My Contacts or Nobody, depending on your comfort level.

          5. Use a Separate Number (Advanced Option)

For maximum privacy, some users choose to:

          • Use a secondary SIM or

          • Use a WhatsApp Business number
to participate without revealing their personal phone number.

          Your privacy is important!
Feel free to follow the steps above to ensure you’re comfortable while participating in the community. If you need help adjusting any settings, reach out to an admin privately.
